Management is not 'organising', 'controlling' or 'monitoring', but the use of knowledge to achieve a desired outcome. The knowledge required is of the market, the workforce and the technology.
Too many people think that there is a formula to management and that the religeous implimentation of the latest management technique will bring success. Project managers tend to manage their project plan rather than the project itself; Risk managers tend to manage their risk register rather than the risk.
